Susan G. Komen Michigan was formed on January14th of 2015 through the collaboration of three, independent Komenaffiliates: Komen Southwest Michigan, Komen Mid-Michigan and KomenWest Michigan. This collaboration began when the West Michiganaffiliate and Southwest affiliate shared personnel to manageadministration of both offices. After working together for months,the staff and boards of directors realized that an even greaterimpact could be felt by widening the partnership to include theMid-Michigan affiliate. The three organizations then determinedthat by joining forces while keeping local offices, outreach andraces, greater savings and efficiency could be recognized,maximizing the impact on the fight against breast cancer.Komen Michigan is an independent, local non-profit organizationthat is dedicated to combating breast cancer. Seventy-five percentof the organization’s net proceeds go towards programs and fundinggrants to local hospitals and community organizations that providebreast health education, screenings, diagnostics and survivorshipprograms for under-served men and women in Michigan. The Michigan Farmers Market Association(MIFMA) was started in 2006 as a statewide association to promotelocal food consumption in Michigan by connecting more farmers toconsumers through farmers markets.
